Car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort kills at least nine, probe under anti-terror law
On the evening of 10 November 2025, a vehicle (a white Hyundai i20) exploded at a traffic signal near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi. At least nine people were killed and around 19-24 injured.

On Monday 10 November 2025 at approximately 18:52 IST, a slow-moving Hyundai i20 vehicle stopped at a red light near the Red Fort Metro Station on the busy road from Delhi Gate to Kashmere Gate.
Seconds later, the car exploded violently, resulting in a fire that engulfed multiple nearby vehicles including cars, autorickshaws and two-wheelers. Witnesses described seeing body parts and the sound of shattering windows in nearby buildings.
At least nine people died when they were either inside the vehicle or nearby; dozens more were injured and rushed to the nearby hospital (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (Nayak) Hospital).
Investigators from the Delhi Police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other agencies have sealed off the blast site, are collecting forensic evidence and examining CCTV footage of the vehicle’s movement and parking prior to the explosion.
The owner of the vehicle has been detained and security forces say they are treating the incident as a possible terror attack, invoking the UAPA and the Explosives Act.
In response, the central government has placed key installations (including airports, train stations and metro hubs) on high alert, and interstate coordination has been activated.
The motive remains unconfirmed, but early signs indicate a “vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED)” scenario.
