President of India Announces 131 Padma Awards on Republic Day 2026
On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, President Droupadi Murmu approved the conferment of 131 Padma Awards, the nation’s prestigious civilian honours.

New Delhi — As India celebrates its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the Padma Awards 2026, recognising outstanding service and achievement by citizens and people of Indian origin around the world. A total of 131 Padma Awards were announced this year, spanning the three major categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
Among the honourees are veteran personalities and modern contributors alike:
Padma Vibhushan (the second-highest civilian award) was conferred on late Bollywood legend Dharmendra posthumously, among a select few leaders and cultural figures.
Padma Bhushan recipients include renowned playback singer Alka Yagnik, cinematic icon Mammootty, tennis great Vijay Amritraj, and other distinguished contributors to arts, industry, and society.
Padma Shri honours were announced for achievers across fields — from sportspersons like Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur to social workers, educators, and innovators.
This year’s list is notable for its diversity and inclusivity, with awardees representing various states, disciplines, and even Indian diaspora communities abroad. Several unsung heroes — individuals whose grassroots contributions have transformed lives in remote districts — have also been recognised, marking a broadening of the awards’ reach.
The Padma Awards — one of India’s highest civilian honours — are traditionally announced on Republic Day and will be formally presented at ceremonial functions at the Rashtrapati Bhavan later in the year.
